How to be Happy

Happiness - how to be happy

Thank you for all your responses to last month’s ‘corny’ story – I was in two minds whether to use it, but it has been very well-received.

Our new theme looks at ways to be happy.  I was going to call it ‘Stress Management’ or something similar, but something about the term assumes that stress is obligatory, and the mere mention of it makes me feel more tense, so I’d prefer to come at the subject from the opposite angle!

Particularly as I heard the other day that an average 6 year old laughs 300 times a day, whereas an adult laughs on average only 15-50 times a day!  It seems we have plenty to learn about taking life less seriously, so let’s abandon the business-speak for now and have a lighter look at making our days more enjoyable.

I have a tendency to get my head down and keep on grimly working when things are just not flowing and it all feels like very hard work.

So recently I have deliberately gone against the grain and done something I enjoy instead, like surfing or going for a walk.

About 90% of the time, I have come back to find a message with some good news or, while I was out and about, taken a call on my mobile offering me work.  After that, I can resume what seemed so difficult in a totally different frame of mind.  Each time I have said ‘I should go out more!’ but it is still difficult to break the habit of what I feel I ‘should’ be doing.

Do let me know if you have had any similar experiences you would like to share, so I can continue my re-education into making life more enjoyable!
