The newsletters appear to have developed their own momentum, settling for now into a bimonthly pattern. Rather than be pressured by a monthly deadline, I’d prefer to send them when I have something to say.
Last time I mentioned that we all have a ‘blueprint’ or an expectation of the way our lives should be. Over the last few days I’ve been thinking about how that blueprint comes about. As children we become the imprint of our parents and other care-givers, who modify our behaviour and even our thoughts to fit in with their own blueprint. Our essential nature may be considered negative and not nurtured, or even suppressed. Then as we grow up our behaviour is influenced by our experiences, good and bad.
From what other people tell us about our personality, we develop beliefs about what we can and can’t do. Sometimes there may be things we desperately need or want to do, but because of our blueprint, or to use another analogy, the way we’ve been wired, we have great difficulty. How much is your personality representative of your true self, or of the experiences you have been through?
Hypnotherapy can help to rewire you more quickly and effectively than trying to do it consciously. And the positive effects can ripple out beyond the area that was causing a problem. Earlier this year I treated someone with a phobia about visiting the dentist, and after the session he was able to calmly go and get his teeth checked for the first time in 18 years.
I’ve just seen him again and he told me that the session was the best money he’s ever spent! Not only does he feel more confident generally, but he has stopped biting his nails for the first time in his life!
